Depression and Worthlessness

We do not see ourselves worshipping physical things in today’s culture but in essence it is more common than most perceive. Men and Women all over the United States flock to their televisions to watch sports, movies, and let’s not forget American Idol.

Reading Jeremiah 2:5, This is what the Lord says: “What fault did your fathers find in me, that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 3:12, All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.

Go to any bookstore and you will find “answers” for people living in depression and feeling worthless. Calling something sin seems to be a sin. Is it better to tickle a person’s ear with something sounding nice rather than tell them the truth?

  1. When we call sin "sin" we are told that we are intolerant of others. Things are relative and no real truth exists in the minds of people anymore. Relativism is another way of saying what the last verse in Judges says "In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes" Judges 21:25. If there are no absolutes only relative truth then whatever I believe is truth is truth for me irrespective of anyone else. That is some messed up thinking!
